This year, we've sadly seen lots of businesses close, but we've also seen many new businesses open.

So, as the countdown to 2025 vast approaches, we've created a list of the businesses in and around Kingston that have opened and closed this year.

Canbury Secret closes

Canbury Secret began as a regeneration project around a derelict toilet building and has proved a hit with locals.

In a Facebook post, Mr Selini announced that it's "time to pass the torch".

"Thanks to an amazing inclusive community, lovely customers and a supportive RBK Council."

ICON replaces Surbitonian Vine

In September, ICON coffee and brunch house replaced the Surbitonian Vine on Claremont Road in Surbiton.

It opened its doors on Thursday 12 September and is under the same ownership as the Surbitonian Vine, offering a "similar vibe" according to an ICON waitress.

The waitress told Surbiton Nub News that the owner Johnny decided to change the bar into a café because "the bar just wasn't working anymore" and he wants to focus more "on coffee".

Transcend Wellness opens

In October, Kingston welcomed Transcend Wellness London on Eden Street, next to the Guildhall.

It is housed in the old Stylish Stag barbers.

The wellness centre offers a range of relaxing facilities and hyperbaric oxygen treatments, including Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, Infrared Saunas, Red Light Therapy, and 7D Massage Chairs.

Bocso Lounge in Surbiton reopens

On 28 September, after a £1m refurbishment, Bosco Lounge cocktail bar and hotel in Surbiton reopened its doors with a swanky new look.

Hidden from the street with its shiny new metal chain-like curtains, the new Bosco venue boasts customised commissioned artwork on its walls and a club-like atmosphere.

UBX Gym opens

In October, UBX gym officially opened its doors on Brook Street.

The gym chain was co-founded in Australia by four-time world champion boxer Danny Green and fitness and tech entrepreneur Tim West.

It now has over 90 boutique gyms across Australia, New Zealand and Singapore, and has been opening more gyms, including the Kingston one, across the UK and US this year.

Monte Bianco opens

Also in October, Surbiton welcomed a Italian coffee shop, Monte Bianco.

Monte Bianco is housed in the old Polish Deli.

Run by Alaistair Roberts, Kingston, Monte Bianco sells its own branded coffees along with pastries and soft drinks.

Roberts told Kingston Nub News that he also hopes to use the back area as a kitchen in the future so that he can sell food.

Rosa's Thai opens

Clearly October was a good month for openings as Rosa's Thai also opened the doors to its Kingston restaurant in October.

Following its soft launch period from 7-20 October, Rosa's Thai officially opened the doors to its restaurant on Monday, 21 October.

Rosa's Thai was co-founded by Saiphin and Alex Moore, who brought dishes from Saiphin's native Thailand to London when they opened a market stall on Brick Lane back in 2007.

Urban Outfitters opens

Following a successful soft launch in October, the new Urban Outfitters in Kingston's Ancient Market Place officially opened in November.

The store held a launch party on 9 October.

Urban Outfitters Kingston offers a variety of street lifestyle clothing, home decorations and vinyl records.

The new store replaced Anthropologie.

New nail bar opens in Surbiton

In November, Made in Surbiton nail bar and spa opened its doors on Brighton Road in Surbiton.

The salon offers a variety of nail treatments, including acrylics, BIAB, manicures, and pedicures, as well as hair treatments, including balayage, colouring, and cut and blow dries.

Pour Moi opens store in Kingston

A new Pour Moi store opened its doors in the Ancient Market Place on 7 November.

The 2465 sq ft store is Pour Moi's fourth physical space.

The store sells selection of Pour Moi's lingerie and swimwear collections and bestsellers from its nightwear, sportswear, and clothing ranges.

Argonaut Coffee opens its first permanent café

Also in November, Argonaut Coffee van opened its first permanent on café at 1 Buckland's Wharf.

Argonaut's former coffee van on Canbury Gardens had been a much-loved staple on the riverside for years.

Last December, Arognut, run by George Vasili, suffered major problems when the Argonaut truck was vandalised and left in need of major repairs.

HMV opens in the Bentall Centre

At the end of November, Kingston locals welcomed the grand opening of a new HMV store on the first floor of the Bentall Centre.

Staff at the new store welcomed locals to its grand opening with tunes from Sabrina Carpenter.

The new store sells a variety of items, including vinyls, CDs, DVDs, posters, books, and merchandise such as that from the new Wicked film, which came out last month.

Earlier this month, New Malden's Pets at Home store unveiled its grand reopening of its flagship Pet Care Centre.

Pets at Home had a grand unveiling of its newly designed flagship Pet Care Centre in New Malden on Friday 29 November – a game changing destination that sets a new gold standard for pet care.

The Swan Pub in Hampton Wick reopens

The Swan pub in Hampton Wick reopened on Wednesday, 4 December at 5pm.

This came after it was acquired and upgraded by the Big Smoke Brew Co pub operator.

Taking to Facebook back in October, the Big Smoke said that it was giving the pub a makeover.

The Gym Group Surbiton opens

Just before Christmas, the new The Gym Group opened on Victoria Road in Surbiton.

The new gym offers 24-hour access and state-of-the-art equipment.

Surbiton welcomes new Turkish Bar and grill

After a months of getting the venue ready, Renas Bar and Grill officially opened its doors.

As you enter the venue, a swanky bar stretches across the left side of the room, filled with an assortment of beverages, and to your right is a larger dining area.

With the large front window, the room has perfect natural lighting, and that, combined with background music humming softly, created an ideal lunchtime ambience.
