He has written two incredible books Can't Stand Up For Falling Down and Too Late To Stop Now. Allan will be recounting tales of rock and roll glamour and excess, with an emphasis on the latter, followed by a Q&A session. A selection of Allan's books will also be available to purchase at this event, tickets are limited to 40 seats, grab yours now!
Extract From Music Insider, on Allan's first journalist position at Melody Maker –
"A couple of months into my new gig, I got an unexpected crack at Leonard Cohen and apparently did a good enough job that MM assistant editor Michael Watts – who declared on my arrival that he doubted I'd last six months – sent me out in quick succession to interview Bryan Ferry, Van Morrison, Ray Davies, John Cale, Frank Zappa, Lemmy and John Martyn. Things were looking up. I was soon bombing up and down Britain's motorways in a variety of leaky vans, clapped-out charabancs and beat-up tour buses"
Extract From Shindig, Q&A –
"Who were the most fun to interview?"
"I had most fun interviewing, touring and writing about Lou Reed, John Cale, Alex Harvey, David Bowie, Neil Young, Lemmy, Dr Feelgood, Rockpile, Elvis Costello, The Clash, The Sex Pistols, Squeeze, XTC, The Specials, Townes Van Zandt, Eddie Vedder. Van Morrison was very difficult. Gordon Lightfoot threatened to punch me. Tony Iommi did…..Sharing a bottle of home-brewed moonshine with Bo Diddley on an overnight drive from Cleveland to Washington DC through the worst blizzard in local memory, the two of us and the driver the only people awake on The Clash's tour bus, is also a cherished rock'n'roll memory"
