As part of the NSPCC's flagship Childhood Day celebrations, Weston Green Preparatory School in Thames Ditton has won a year's subscription from the Royal Ballet School for their Primary Steps on Demand dance programme.

Weston Green was selected at random in a nationwide prize draw from the schools that signed up to take part in the NSPCC Childhood Day Mile, which takes place every June.

Deputy Headteacher, Azmina Hansraj said: "At Weston Green School we are committed to nurturing virtues such as compassion and empathy.

"So, we are delighted to receive this prize from the Royal Ballet School for the Childhood Day Mile, acknowledging the efforts we take to develop our civic responsibility.

"The children thoroughly enjoy coming together as a community to support values in action in order to help other children – step by step we can make a difference! Thank you, NSPCC!"

Childhood Day, on June 6, celebrates childhood and raises awareness of the NSPCC's life-changing services, including the NSPCC Helpline, Childline and its schools programme Speak out, Stay safe.

Almost 1,000 schools and nurseries signed up to take part.

Worth £300, Primary Steps on Demand provides schools with a complete primary school dance programme with curriculum-based subjects, professional development resources and fully guided video lessons.

Additionally, the Royal Ballet School also supported the NSPCC by providing free dance resources to all schools that signed up to take part in the Childhood Day Mile, which encourages children to get active, have fun and raise money to help keep children safe.

The resources included a lesson plan, two activity sheets and two dance videos. Children were inspired to move their mile like their favourite animal.

Katie Fudge, NSPCC Schools Fundraising Development Manager, said: "We are thrilled to have partnered with the Royal Ballet School and loved seeing how the children have moved their mile by dancing.

"Thank you to the Royal Ballet School for their support for Childhood Day and everyone who has taken part in the mile and activities throughout the day!"
