Power cut affects businesses across Kingston
By Tilly O'Brien 27th Feb 2026
An unplanned power cut has occurred in Kingston town centre today (Friday, 27 February).
UK Power Network (UKPN) has been informed and it predicts the issue will be fixed between 1.30pm and 2.30pm today.
Speaking about the cause of the power cut, UKPN said: "An underground electricity cable has faulted our high voltage network, causing an area wide power cut."
It added that the power cut has affected 116 customers.
Several businesses across the KT1 and KT2 postcodes have not been able to open, including the Card Factory on aEden Walk and Apia Cafe.

However the owner of Supplements Lab has not let the power cut stop him from opening.
While he cannot turn the lights on, he is using a lantern, keeping the door open (so customers know he is open), and keyed till.
However, he said, "it's not a good look as we usually play music to make the mood more welcoming".

The power cut has also affected Kingston Railway Station with one local resident reporting that no one could use the ticket barriers when arriving at the station.
