Power restored to Kingston town centre following unplanned power cut
By Tilly O'Brien 27th Feb 2026
UK Power Networks (UKPN) has restored power to Kingston following an unplanned power cut, which hit the town centre earlier today (Friday, 27 February).
The power cut, which affected 116 UKPN customers and prevented many businesses in the area from opening, was caused by a fault in an underground electricity cable.
Kingston Railway Station was also affected.
A UKPN spokesperson said: "Great news - Our engineers have now restored power to all 116 customers in the Kingston Upon Thames KT1 area by diverting power around the faulty underground cables.
"Thank you for your patience while our team worked hard to resolve this issue safely; we're pleased that our engineers were able restore the power within the timeframe we had estimated."
They added: "If your power isn't back on, we'll need to hear from you. To report this, or to talk to us about anything else, call us on 08003163105 which is free from landlines and mobiles."
