A second application to convert Canbury Place car park in Kingston town centre into apartments was submitted in January and locals have since expressed concerns about how the conversion will affect traffic in the area.

As the planning application proposes to close Kingsgate Road and replace it with a shared footway for pedestrians, residents have raised concerns that the traffic around the roundabout, which is already very busy, will only increase further.

In light of these concerns, the MP for Richmond Park, Sarah Olney, has asked Transport for London (Tfl) "to ensure that their modelling of our bus service routes is made available to members of the planning committee before the application is presented to them to ensure that the committee has all of the information available when reviewing this matter".

The amended application asks for the: "Demolition of the existing buildings and the erection of two buildings (Block A - part 12, part 10, part 2 storey and Block B - part 15, part 12 storey) to provide residential apartments (Use Class C3) comprising (159 x 1-bed, 67 x 2-bed, and 39 x 3-bed) with associated facilities, and flexible workspace (Use Class E) (447sqm) with associated access, parking and landscaping arrangements, including the stopping up (closure) of Kingsgate Road."

Kingston Council is yet to make a decision on this application.
