A new casual wine bar has opened in Surbiton.

Corners officially opened in the site of the former Richard Sealtiel's bar and kitchen on Maple Road, which closed in December after 20 years, on Monday (16 February) following a soft launch for friends and family on Saturday (14 February).

Corners serves brunch, wine, craft beers, and small plates in the evening.

Its wine list has 20 different reds and 20 different whites, all under £30, including Slovakian and Georgian wines.

Corners serves brunch until 2pm before having a two-hour break – where punters can still enjoy beverages – before the evening menu starts.

Its brunch menu offers a variety of fancy brunch dishes ranging from Toasted Crumpets & Poached eggs with various toppings to Pancakes and waffles.

Whereas the evening menu consists of various nibbles, snacks, small plates, sides, puddings, and a cheese board.

Speaking about opening Corners in Surbiton, owner Johnny, who has been a chef for 20 years and worked in Surbiton 18 years ago before moving to Bath, told Nub News: "It's amazing to finally get my own place and have my own touch on things.

"I loved serving pints to my friends and family at the soft launch on Saturday."

Johnny explained that the name Corners comes from the idea that it will be a place for locals who want to eat out without having to have a formal dinner and can "just pop around the corner and relax without being formal".

He says that Corners is a mix between a wine bar and casual dining, which he thinks is perfect for Maple Road as it is not as formal as nearby The French Table, but fancier than The Antelope pub.

Johnny added that it is both family and dog friendly and that punters can pop in just for a pint (or more) if they wish.

Keeping to the casual wine bar idea, all wines by the glass on the menu are around £20, which Johnny says makes Corners "affordable".

To prepare for the opening, Johnny had a complete refurbishment of the building and made the toilets look a lot cleaner.

Corners' interior boasts a regal green colour to match its shelf of plants and has a spacious seating area.

It is currently open daily from 8am – 11pm but Johnny says he may start staying open later on Fridays and Saturdays.

He also hopes to start hosting community events such as pub quizzes on Sundays.

Corners is open for both walk ins and bookings.
