Independent West Sussex artist Richard Neale has returned with his most "emotionally open" album to date.

The Walls Fell, which was released on 20 March 2026, is a ten-track album written and recorded over six years, starting in 2020, in a home studio built just before the pandemic — a record shaped by fractured memory, parenthood and the slow dismantling of emotional defences.

To celebrate the release, Neale will be returning to Kingston with an in-store live performance at Banquet Records on Thursday, 30 April at 6pm.

This will be Neale's second performance at the store following a performance for his last album release back in 2018.

Speaking about why he reached out to Banquet Records for a second performance, Neale told Nub News: "I love Banquet Records. I think it's the best music shop in the world.

"I used to work down the road from the store, so I've been there a lot. I really hope this will be the start of more live performances for me as I've not really focused on them before, but now I'm up for doing more."

Neale says that he thinks this performance will be "quite unusual" as he will be "kind of mixing live singing over the top of different loops with instruments".

The artist told Nub News that he finds it hard to define his music genre but suggests it could be a mix of alternative rock and indie singer/ songwriting.

But, he said, The Walls Fell is more experimental and more electronic.

Neale added: "The Walls Fell is an emotionally open self examination. I wanted to let the walls we use to protect ourselves fall, this is what's left.

"I wanted the songs to be as open and honest as possible and to have very emotionally open lyrics.

"I am proud of the lyrics because they are really honest."

The Walls Fell is a 10-track album with a 36-minute runtime, featuring the singles 'Three Seasons' and 'Berlin'.

The album openly explores themes of relationships, parenthood, and friendship, and has been released digitally, with a short run of bespoke CDs available exclusively at live shows.

Neale released his debut album Human Resources in 2012.

Since then, he has released three further albums exploring evolving loops, electronic textures, and modern classical influences.

His 2017 album EVES was built around spontaneous piano sketches, expanded with choral voices, wonky instrumentation, and reverb-drenched vocals. The Walls Fell marks Neale's fifth full-length release.

He told Nub News that he began making music about 20 years ago and got into music in his teen years when he was inspired by the likes of Radiohead, Sufjan Stevens, and Grouper.

He writes all his own songs and plays the piano and bass guitar, though he says he is "more of a producer".

Tickets to the show at Banquet Records are on sale now and can be bought here.
