A criterium cycling race called the Athelstan Cup will take place in Kingston Town Centre in 2027.

The event is being set up in partnership with Kingston Council and Kingston Wheelers, and has been organised by the team behind the London Nocturne.

The London Nocturne is a unique criterium race in the City of London that showcases London's iconic landmarks. The 2026 race was broadcast live on TNT Sports and HBO Max.

One of the organisers of the event told Kingston Nub News that he is excited for the Athelstan Cup, as it will "activate the town centre and help with the promotion of [an] active lifestyle".

He added that the Tour de France's Grand Depart will be in the UK in 2027 so cycling will receive a lot of attention.

"The Athelstan Cup wants to also bring this attention to Kingston," the organiser said.
