Kingston residents have reacted with shock after a giant sword and 4 knives were recovered by police in south west London.
In a Facebook post this morning (7 July), Kingston police revealed that officers from the south west Basic Command Unit found the weapons after stopping 2 men who had recently entered the region.
The trio of officers, including 2 trainees, had been informed by a different BCU unit about the men.
After apprehending the males in an alleyway, the officers arrested the pair for several offences including possession of offensive weapons and a GBH stabbing.
Reacting to the news, several commenters on Kingston police's post expressed their shock and horror at the incident while others praised the teamwork and swift action of officers from the unit.
Sariah Jackson said: "Those weapons are terrifying.
"Well done on taking them, and their owners, off the streets."
Andrea Tucker added: "Sickening that they check themselves out with these when they go out and think it's acceptable to not only carry them, but use them too.
"Longer sentences for possession with intent would be a start. No excuses."
Asked by a commenter where the incident took place, Kingston police said they would reveal more detail as the case progresses.
"We cannot put out too much in the early stages," they said.
