Person dies on tracks between Wimbledon and Surbiton, causing train disruptions

Emergency services were called to reports of a casualty on the tracks at Raynes Park Railway Station earlier today (Thursday, 26 February), causing all lines between Surbiton and Wimbledon to be closed.

A person was pronounced dead at the scene.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: "Officers were called to Raynes Park railway station at 1.52pm on 26 February to reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended, and sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"This incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

All lines between Surbiton and Wimbledon remain closed and South Western Railway (SWR) expects they will reopen at 10pm.

SWR says that any tickets bought will also be accepted, at no additional cost, on the following bus services:

  • White Bus Services 437 between Woking and West Byfleet
  • White Bus Services 458 between Staines - Shepperton - Walton-on-Thames - Hersham - Esher - Hinchley Wood - Thames Ditton - Surbiton - Kingston
  • White Bus Services 462 and 463 between Guildford - Clandon - Woking
  • Stagecoach South 35 between Guildford and Woking
  • White Bus Services 463 between Woking and Guildford
  • White Bus Services 462 between Woking and Guildford
