Kingston police issue dispersal order for town centre

Police issued a 48-hour dispersal order in Kingston yesterday evening due to reports that youths were engaging in anti-social behaviour.
The section 35 order applies to the whole of Kingston town centre and was authorised by Inspector Norman at 8.30pm.
Kingston police said the order was made to reduce the likelihood of the occurrence of crime and disorder in the area.
In a statement today, a spokesperson for the force confirmed that officers attended the scene to move people on. There have been no arrests so far.
The order has the following boundaries:
- Northern: Kingston Bridge, A308 and A307 up to junction of Birkenhead Avenue- Eastern: A307 to junction of A240
- Southern: A307 between junction A240 and South Lane- Western: River front between South Lane and Kingston Bridge
Section 35 orders are made under the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 .
They allow uniformed police officers to ban from an area people who the officer reasonably suspects are contributing or likely to contribute to members of the public being harassed, alarmed or distressed, or the occurrence of crime and disorder.
