AN INDEPENDENT brewery in Kingston is launching a new charity beer 'Brave Noise' in support to a campaign to end discrimination in the beer industry.

The Park Brewery will join 6 other UK breweries and 184 across the US, Canada and New Zealand in selling the collaborative brew.

The beer gets its name from a campaign of the same name, #BraveNoise, which started in November last year.

#BraveNoise calls on breweries to be more transparent about their diversity policies and commit to long-term work against all forms of discrimination in the industry.

Frankie Kearns, who co-founded The Park Brewery with her husband John in 2014, opened up about the challenges she has faced as a female in the industry and explained why the business is taking part in the campaign.

She said: "When we started the brewery in 2014, as a woman rolling up my sleeves, getting stuck in on a brew-day, packing beer, driving trucks around, delivering cask ale to pubs, selling it etc, wasn't always easy. Occasionally, made harder by patronising or unpleasant comments. It can bash your confidence.

"But I was lucky to be supported by my husband, Josh, also Co-Founder and I know that others have had far worse experiences without that support, which is why I want to be part of this campaign and help us move along collectively, to a better place.

"We're lucky our team are progressive, forward thinking men and women with an even 50/50, male/female split, which is unusual in this industry and we're really proud of that.

"But there's always more to do in terms of diversity and inclusion which is why you have to keep these conversations and initiatives very much alive, and front of mind."

Each brewery taking part in the 'Brave Noise' initiative will create the beer to the same recipe - a smooth pale ale with tropical flavours and a coconut undertone.

The Brave Noise brew is described as "a feel good, easy-drinking beer, dry-hopped with the amazing Mosaic and Sabro hops."

It will be available in 440ml can, keg and cask, and will be sold on the brewery's website and various outlets from February 7 - just a couple of weeks before The Park Brewery returns with its first Beer Fest of 2022.

A portion of the profits from the charity beer will go to Kingston Women's Centre.

The Park Brewery said: "Kingston Women's Centre welcome women from all backgrounds and all ages from the local community.

"They aim to provide a safe confidential space where women can talk about anything painful in their lives without fear or judgement.

"They have some great plans ahead, which we hope we can support with this campaign."

The Park Brewery's tap room can be found at Unit 7, Hampden Road. Read more about its story HERE
