Surbiton: Cyclist in critical condition after collision with lorry on Ewell Road – road closures in place

A CYCLIST is in critical condition after colliding with a lorry at the intersection of Ewell Road and Langley Road in Surbiton this morning.

The male cyclist, believed to be in his 40s, suffered injuries to his legs and was treated at the scene before being rushed to hospital. An air ambulance was called.

The lorry driver stopped at the scene and there have been no arrests.

Part of Ewell Road and Langley Road remain closed at the time of writing and road users are warned to avoid the area. The 281, 418 and 406 buses are on diversion.

Police and ambulance services were called to the accident at around 8.18am.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 8:18am this morning (26 January) to reports of a road traffic collision involving a lorry and a cyclist on Ewell Road, Surbiton.

"We sent an ambulance crew, a team leader and an incident response officer to the scene. We also dispatched London's Air Ambulance.

"We treated a man at the scene for leg injuries and took him to hospital."

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: "Police were called at approximately 08:20hrs on Wednesday, 26 January to reports of a road traffic collision involving a lorry and a cyclist in Ewell Road, junction with Langley Road, Surbiton.

"Officers, London Ambulance Service and London's Air Ambulance all attended the scene.

"The cyclist, a man believed aged in his 40s, was taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries – he remains there in a critical condition.

"The driver of the lorry stopped at the scene.

"There have been no arrests; enquiries continue.

"Road closures remain in place around the scene."
