Kingston-based broadcaster Eamonn Holmes is in hospital after having a stroke, GB News has said.

The channel said Holmes was "taken ill last week" and it was "later confirmed he had suffered a stroke".

He is "responding well to treatment", a statement said, adding that Holmes's "colleagues and everyone at GB News wish him a speedy recovery".

Holmes was found collapsed at his Kingston apartment by a carer after falling ill on Tuesday, 7 April. It is reported that his girlfriend, Katie Alexander, 44, has been by his side, posting prayer updates online.

In an Instagram post on Friday night, (10 April), Alexander said:  "What a week. Prayer, a little visit to church to have a word with the good Lord himself, prayer each day."

Sources close to the presenter described the period as "a terrifying time."

His estranged wife, Ruth Langsford, 66, has reportedly been kept informed of his condition by their son, Jack, 23.

Holmes, who has previously discussed various health issues including spinal surgery and the use of a wheelchair, will be off air for the foreseeable future.

Alex Armstrong, a fellow GB News presenter, is scheduled to stand in for Holmes this week.

Holmes has not appeared on screen since 11 March, when viewers expressed concern after he appeared to fall asleep during an interview.

Holmes' health battles began in 2021 after he suffered three slipped discs and a dislocated pelvis, which led to spinal surgery and the need for a wheelchair and daily care.

"Nobody seems to know what the problem is so I just stick with it and hopefully they'll find a cure one day," he said last month.
