Surbiton High School wins EFL's 2026 Utilita Girls Cup

Surbiton High School, representing AFC Wimbledon, won English Football League's (EFL) 2026 Utilita Girls Cup over the weekend after a penalty shootout victory over Tranmere Rovers at Wembley Stadium.
Surbiton, which triumphed in the competition last season, held its nerve from the spot after the Final finished 0-0 in normal time.
The game, says EFL, "was a fairly even contest from the first whistle, but it was AFC Wimbledon who arguably had the best chance".
It added: "But Evie Dechet's shot was well saved by Tranmere goalkeeper Mia Carroll.
"Tranmere tried their best to find the opener in the second period, but the match ultimately ended goalless.
"After a series of spectacular strikes from the penalty shot, it came down to sudden death, and it was Surbiton who ultimately triumphed.
"Evie Dechet picked up a well-deserved Player of the Match award, with her performance in the middle of the park the standout."
Surbiton High School has been contacted for comment.
