In a vote in Parliament today, Wednesday 29 January, Liberal Democrat MP for Kingston and Surbiton, Ed Davey, voted for a bill paving the way to give compensation to Women Against State Pension Inequality (WASPI) women.

It follows an independent report that found they had suffered an injustice due to a failure to properly inform them of pension age changes.

Ed Davey said that the Liberal Democrats "proud" to vote for the bill that would have righted a "gross injustice".

Kingston and Surbiton's MP went on to express the party's "immense disappointment" that Conservative and Labour MPs had failed to back it and promised to "keep fighting" until the 4,750 WASPI women in the local area got the compensation and justice they were owed.

The leader of the Liberal Democrats said: "Today I was proud to vote for a bill to tackle the gross injustice faced by thousands of WASPI women here in Kingston and Surbiton.

"I have already heard from countless women in our area who have suffered due to this scandal.

"For Conservative and Labour MPs to fail to back these women is an immense disappointment. The Liberal Democrats will continue to stand up for the WASPI women at every turn and keep fighting until they get the justice that they deserve."
