Construction begins on 45 new affordable homes
By James Smith 12th Feb 2026
Councillors have celebrated the start of construction on 45 new affordable homes in Kingston.
The project at Kingston Council's Acre Road site officially started last week.
It will ultimately see the new homes created for older people and adults with learning disabilities.
The local authority said they have been "specifically designed to help residents to live as independently as possible in a safe and supportive environment".
The homes are hoped to be completed by spring 2027.
They will be offered at council rent levels, "helping to address the ongoing demand for accessible and genuinely affordable housing in the borough".
Cllr Hamed, Portfolio Holder for Adult Social Care, Public Health and Equalities, said: "Schemes like these demonstrate how focussed the council is in making sure people can live more independent and fulfilling lives, and it's exciting for us to be able to deliver truly affordable homes, at council rent levels.
"We want to increase opportunities for people to live a happy and healthy life, and meeting the growing housing needs and aspirations of our residents is an important part of that.
"We are putting people at the heart of this project and will be working closely with future tenants to understand their individual needs and empower them to make their own choices. I look forward to seeing this project come to life and to welcoming new residents into their homes in the years ahead."
