Love is in the air and property maintenance company Aspect is encouraging homeowners across Kingston to carry out simple checks now that could help prevent costly repairs later in the year.

New data from the property experts reveals that leaks, electrical faults, drainage issues and heating problems are driving the majority of callouts to homes across Kingston this month.

A local property maintenance expert at Aspect explains: "Most major repairs don't come out of nowhere.

"They usually begin as small warning signs, such as minor leaks, damp patches or drops in boiler pressure - all of which are easy to ignore.

"Many of our emergency callouts started as issues that could have been resolved early, saving homeowners stress, disruption and expense."

Aspect recommends several preventative steps which are:

Use rainy days to spot hidden problems - February's persistent rainfall makes it one of the best times to spot potential guttering and drainage issues.

Overflowing gutters, leaking joints or water running down external walls will lead to water entering the property increasing the risk of internal damage.

Check the spaces you normally don't see - As you start thinking about spring cleaning, pull sofas, beds and wardrobes slightly away from walls.

Damp patches, mould or peeling paint can develop unnoticed behind furniture during winter, particularly in colder or poorly ventilated rooms.

Spot heating issues before spring shutdown - After months of heavy winter use, February is a good time to look out for early warning signs such as cold spots on radiators, drops in boiler pressure or unusual noises.

Addressing issues now can help prevent breakdowns later and avoid the busy autumn repair period.
