Co Op has today (Tuesday, 2 December) opened a new 'grab 'n go' store in Kingston's town centre.

The Kingston store, which is located in the site of the former Wenzel's Bakery on Clarence Street, is the company's first micro store in London, according to one of the store's workers.

Operating as a 'grab 'n go', the Kingston shop specialises in breakfast and lunch deals ranging from hot toasties or baguettes and a side for £6.50 to two hot treats for £2.

Despite being a micro store, customers can still use their general Co Op cards which they use in the company's larger shops to earn points and more.

Opening earlier today (Tuesday), the store is fully stocked with mealtime goodies and has seen locals flooding in throughout the morning.

To celebrate the opening, Co Op has a DJ stationed at the storefront blasting tunes while staff members are taking to Clarence Street to hand out vouchers and free treats, including ice coffee and toastie samples.

Co Op also has a spin the wheel game further down on Clarence Street, which has garnered queues of people hoping to win a prize from the new store.

Speaking about the opening, Jane Wells, Co-op Area Operations Manager, said: "The whole team is excited to launch our new concept store in Kingston where we are really looking forward to being part of the vibrant community, and welcoming members and customers into their new Co-op store. Differing to our traditional convenience stores, whether working, shopping or socialising in the high street area, our new store is here to offer breakfast, lunch or dinner on-the-go."

Gary Williams, Co-op Director of Store Optimisation, added: "We are delighted to grow our 'on-the-go' concept with the unveiling of our Kingston store. Our new concept brings together an innovative blend of food-to-go propositions, with freshly prepared products designed to stand out in the high street and serve this vibrant and thriving community. Catering to 'on-the-go' meals throughout the day you will find delicious products, quick service, quality and value, and all in a great convenient location, as we continually look for new ways to get closer to our members and customers and, deliver added convenience."

Moreover, the store chain has applied to Kingston Council for permission to supply alcohol for off premises purposes from 7am – 11pm seven days a week.

Residents have until 16 December to submit representations on this application and can do so here.

The company has also applied for permission to have outdoor seating to the front of the premises relevant for the purpose of consuming food or drink.

Should the application be approved, the outdoor seating area will have three isotop tables and six polypropylene reinforced with glass fibre chairs, metal litter bin, and banners with stainless steel posts.

The area will be open during the store's operating hours of 7am – 7pm seven days a week.

Residents have until tomorrow (Wednesday, 3 December) to submit representations on this application and can do so here.
