The Chessington World of Adventure Resort (CWoAR) revealed plans on Wednesday (November 16) for its proposed expansion of a £30million waterpark.

The Leisure resort has evolved from its early beginnings in the 1930s as a public zoo to one of the country's leading family attractions and an integral component of the tourism on offer in the Kingston borough, it currently covers approximately 198 acres on the fringe of Chessington.

The Leisure and tourism industry was one of the hardest hit sectors during Covid-19 and CWoAR has been using the past few years to focus on enhancing the experience for visitors through the improvement of accommodation and getting the site operating as a resort.

Now, CWoAR has turned its focus to new quality rides and attractions. The new themed land 'World of Jumanji' will kickstart the movement in the spring of 2023 and the resort's 'Waterpark Adventure' is next in line.

Within its public consultation, it listed the enhanced number of visits would bring additional economic benefits to the borough of Kingston as well as huge job opportunities, and pointed to the lack of wet leisure and swimming pool facilities currently available in Kingston as reasons for expanding development within the Chessington Green Belt.

The proposals include an extension to the existing Safari Hotel with its currently underused hotel conference centre set to be refurbished for guest changing areas, lockers and WCs.

Predicted to open in 2025 if plans are approved, the Chessington Waterpark Adventure will also feature a wave pool, infinity pool, indoor slides and a lazy river.

CWoAR has also stated it is 'committed' to running the resort in a sustainable way and the waterpark would include energy efficient technologies including Photovoltaic (PV) panels and a blue roof. It claimed the application will be accompanied by a full Energy and Sustainability Statement setting out how energy efficient design measures will be incorporated into the scheme.

Residents are invited to submit their thoughts on the resort's waterpark through a survey that can be accessed HERE, or by emailing comments and questions to [email protected].

The consultation will close on Wednesday 30th November 2022. Full details of the proposed plans can be viewed HERE.
