Chessington World of Adventures Resort reopened on Tuesday, 11 August, after a full-day closure on Monday, 10 August caused by a burst water main in the surrounding KT9 area.

Travellers with 10 August tickets can use the park Return Promise rather than assuming a same-day refund is the only option, and guests booked for 11 August can plan a normal visit under the published 10am to 6pm.

A burst water main cut supplies across parts of south-west London and forced the resort to shut for the full day during the school summer holidays.

BBC News reported that Thames Water traced the burst to Leatherhead Road and said customers in the KT9 area lost service while specialist crews repaired the pipe.

A Chessington World of Adventures spokesperson told the BBC that operational disruption from the local outage required a full attraction closure while teams worked with Thames Water and local partners.

They added: "That is a utility-driven park hold, not a ride breakdown or weather closure, so guest recovery runs through the park ticket rules rather than a ride-specific refund path.

"Restrooms, food service, animal care, and fire-safety systems all depend on stable water pressure, which is why a neighborhood main break can stop an otherwise healthy ride fleet.

"Guests should read the Monday outcome as an infrastructure day, not as a signal that a named coaster or land failed inspection."

Thames Water said most local supplies should have returned to normal by early afternoon on Monday, with temporary measures in place while permanent repairs finished.

Low pressure can linger briefly as the network restabilises, which matters more for nearby residents than for guests already inside a reopened park.

But the timing was bad as peak school-holiday Mondays are among the busiest trading days for UK family parks, so a full-day loss creates same-week rebooking pressure at Chessington and at nearby Merlin sites that share overlapping demand.

Published summer hours for the resort commonly run from 10am - 6pm on weekdays in this window, so Tuesday matches the calendar pattern rather than a shortened recovery day.

Park-goers are advised to still check the park's live homepage and opening-hours page before you leave, because utility work can reverse if a secondary fault appears.

Hotel guests on a short break should reconfirm Early Ride Time and pool access under their room package.

Those extras usually resume with normal park operations, but front desk notices can lag the public hours banner by a few minutes on a recovery morning.

Chessington World of Adventures said guests with tickets for Monday would have those tickets revalidated for a future date under the Return Promise.

Guests who could not return were told to contact the help centre for a refund path. That two-track recovery is the core traveller job for Monday ticket holders.

The official Return Promise page explains that free return visits apply on selected dates inside the main operational season and that return tickets are issued at admissions with the original valid ticket.

Eligible closed-day tickets sit in that framework rather than under a one-day rainout only product.

Monday ticketholders are advised to not throw away their tickets or screenshots, and to keep the original booking email, QR code, and any SMS status note, because admissions staff revalidate against the original ticket record.

If your party split across paper and mobile tickets, bring every entry credential you used on the closed day.

A missing child ticket or lost confirmation screenshot is the most common reason a same-week return turns into a help-centre queue instead of a fast gate revalidation.

Refund-only guests should contact the help centre rather than posting on social channels and waiting.

They should ask for written confirmation of the refund amount, the original order number, and the expected bank or card timeline so they can match the credit later.

Annual pass holders who lost a planned Monday visit should still check whether any timed extras, animal experiences, or hotel dining deposits need separate rebooking as park entry recovery does not automatically move every paid add-on.

If you are rebooking from August 10, pick the earliest open date that still works for school calendars and transport.

Peak August weekends fill first, so a midweek return often preserves more ride time with less queue risk than pushing everything to Saturday.
