Kingston will be taking part in the annual UK Disability History Month (UKDHM) and there are plenty of ways for residents to get involved.

Running from Wednesday 16th November - Friday 16th December, Kingston will be taking part in activities to raise awareness and celebrate the achievements of communities living with disabilities in the borough.

During the awareness month, and in the lead up to International Day of People with Disabilities (3 December), a number of events and activities will be taking place around the themes of 'celebration, learning, optimism and action.'

On Thursday 1 December between 11am - 12pm, Councillor Emily Davey (Portfolio Holder for Housing) will be leading a discussion on 'Making our Homes and Spaces Accessible', which will be jointly hosted by the Disability & Wellbeing Network and the Kingston Centre for Independent Living.

Residents can register their interest and book their spots here.

The following day, Friday 2 December, will see Souleyman Bah, Paralympic gold medalist sprinter, well respected entrepreneur, former star of The Apprentice and motivational speaker, share his journey to success and how he has overcome barriers along the way.

The event will be jointly hosted by Kingston Council and Kingston University's Special Interest Group on Inclusion and Social Justice. For more information about the event and to book your spot, visit the link here.

As part of the month of celebrations, the Mayor of Kingston, Cllr Yogan Yoganathan, will be visiting Hollyfield Secondary School in Surbiton to view a special spoke guard exhibition where students have created their own designs whilst reflecting on the importance of raising awareness of living with different disabilities and celebrating difference.
