"Following a year of personal obstacles and the break up of a long-term relationship, I started to revisit some of my old paintings. In the process, I left some notes for myself. I painted Post-it notes as a way of reminding myself of events from the past years, unresolved issues and unfinished business. It became a way to reflect on the past and understand how my choices brought me to where I am. It allowed me to conceal something that I didn't want the external world to see; a few painful incidents, a few failing moments. The colourful notes turned out to be a dressing, a spot of vibrant colour that covers the past and allows for some healing in the present. The square is painted as a realistic image of a Post-it note but also a reference to Malevich's Black Square, an abstract form that blocks and censors the painting."
