Kingston man to stand trial over Palestine protest charges

A trial date has been set for Kingston resident Benjamin Jamal, director of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC), who is facing charges related to a Palestine protest held in central London earlier this year.
Jamal, 61, is one of two accused of public order offences following the demonstration on 18 January, which saw 77 arrests.
Also charged is Christopher Nineham, 63, vice chair of the Stop the War Coalition.
The Metropolitan Police allege that protesters attempted to breach conditions by marching out of Whitehall, violating an agreement that it would be contained to a specific area.
Jamal is facing a range of accusations, including inciting others to defy police instructions.
At a Westminster Magistrates' Court hearing on Monday, District Judge Minhas granted both unconditional bail and set the trial for 23 February 2026.
A crowd of pro-Palestinian supporters were outside the courtroom in solidarity waving flags.
Speaking before the hearing, Nineham said that he was very confident that the pair would get justice.
Several other cases with similar charges have been delayed, with Jamal and Nineham's trial being designated as the "lead trial" on the issue.
The Palestine Solidarity Campaign has condemned the charges, calling them "a political attack designed to suppress solidarity with the Palestinian people".
