Dorich House Museum is delighted to show an exhibition of works by Korean artist Han Do-hyun, a master ceramicist from the city of Icheon, South Korea. Icheon is a UNESCO Creative City for Arts and Folk Art and is home to over 700 studios including Han's own HanSugBon studio. In recognition of his skill, Han was selected as an Icheon Ceramic Master in 2023.

Han fires all of his work personally in his traditional wood-fired climbing kiln (Orem-sik Jangjak Gama) which he has been using continuously since it was built 35 years ago. Managing the flames in a climbing kiln is extremely difficult and each firing results in completely unique pieces which are impossible to replicate.

In his show at Dorich House Museum, Han will exhibit 14 vessels using white porcelain and jin-sa-yo-byeon (copper-glaze kiln effects). The museum will also show a specially created film showing Han creating some of the works on display.

This exhibition is part of the Kingston 2025 Festival celebrating 1,100 years since the crowning of King Athelstan in Kingston. The tradition of Korean ceramics dates back at least until this time and we hope it will inspire further artistic exchange between our two countries.
