Andy Murray stepped up his Wimbledon preparations in style by cruising to victory in Sunday's Surbiton Trophy final.

Having seen off Australia's Jordan Thompson in the semi-finals on Saturday, Murray put in another dominant display dispatching Jurji Rodionov 6-3, 6-2 to secure a seeding at SW19 for the tournament he has won twice.

The pair battled it out in Surbiton's soaring temperatures but maintained a high-level of energy as they fought for a lead in the opening set.

Murray's serving was a crucial weapon on the day and he produced vital aces in the early stages, combined with intricate shots to take hold of the final.

Austria's Rodionov put on a spirited effort in the second set and showed signs of a comeback but Murray dug deep to see off the contest in an hour and 10 minutes.

Victory was the former world No.1's first title on home soil in seven years and with Wimbledon just weeks away, Murray was showing signs of his best back on grass.

Speaking after the game he said: "My kids are always asking me when I go away if I am going to come home with a trophy – and it's been rare over the last few years. They actually came two minutes before the rain started and my wife had to take them back home, so they missed the end of the match. But I think they watched it on TV – so Sophia, Edie, Teddy and Lola, I'll bring you all a trophy tonight."

Meanwhile, Belgium's Yanina Wickmayer won the women's title after defeating Britain's Katie Swan 2-6, 6-4, 7-6(1).

Swan was in outstanding form throughout the match, wracking up the winners off her backhand to take a set and a break lead.

Wickmayer showed a champions resilience to overturn a break deficit in both the second and third sets, and despite missing out on a match point while serving for the match, she dominated the deciding tie-break.

Whilst it was a disappointing result for Swan, her performances this week has seen her rise 28 places to world No.134 in the WTA live rankings.
