The amazing river adventures of Freddie the Seal which captured headlines for weeks earlier this year have been turned into a book due to be published next month, Nub News has learned.

Co-authors Alison Kelly and Matt Millard were so entranced by the gripping story of the seal named Freddie Mercury that they spent two months tracking his background, tracing his remarkable journey from the Netherlands to the River Thames until his sad death after a dog attack near Hammersmith.

Kingston Post Office to re-open next week

The old Post Office on Eden Street closed last month / Issy Millett

Kingston Post Office will be re-opening sometime at the end of next week, according to the Council's Portfolio Holder for Business and Leisure.

Berrylands Councillor John Sweeney indicated in a Twitter post earlier this week that the branch will be welcoming customers on a date around the Thursday 26 May.

Surbiton residents invited to become 'hedgehog champions'

Britain's hedgehog population is sadly declining / Kingston Council

Volunteers in Surbiton are to get special cameras to monitor hedgehog activity in their gardens as part of a new initiative by the Zoological Society of London (ZSL).

Residents in the Berrylands and Alexandra Kingston Council Wards will be invited to sign up to take part in a community research programme aiming to measure London's hedgehog population next month, as numbers of the species continue to decline across the UK.

Deer put down after antlers become tangled with plastic bag

A deer in Bushy Park was sadly put down after its antlers became tangled in a plastic bag

The Royal Parks today issued a new appeal to visitors to Bushy Park and Richmond Park to safely dispose of their litter after shocking photos emerged of a young deer with a plastic bag tangled in its antlers which later had to be put down.

A Nub News reader who witnessed the incident, said: "A friend and I were walking and at the Teddington end of Chestnut Avenue. This poor deer ran past us with the blue bag on its tiny horns.
