Police tape surrounded Victoria Road from outside the Victoria and The Elm Tree Pubs up to the YMCA and this part of the road was thus closed to vehicles, but the footpaths on either side of the road remained open.

Locals have been speculating about the incident throughout the day with one saying: "I've been told a child was k-lled in a car accident – 'ran over'."

However, this is not true. The boy's injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life changing.

A Met Police spokesperson told Kingston Nub News: "On Thursday, 19 June at 08:05hrs police were called to reports of a road traffic collision between a car and a child at Victoria Road, Surbiton.

"Officers attended alongside the London Ambulance Service who treated a two-year-old boy at the scene before transporting him to hospital where he remains. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life changing.

"The road was closed for safety reasons but reopened at around 12:20hrs.

"No arrests have been made at this stage. Enquiries continue and anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting CAD 1631/19June25."

This is the second traffic collision to take place on the road this month (June).

Last Thursday (12 June), three people, including two people in their 70s, were taken to hospital following a traffic collision.
