Flowers, bunting, banners and colourful floor stencils have been brightening Kingston town centre over the past week.

The decorations are part of a campaign by the town's business improvement district, Kingston First, to encourage footfall into the town centre as shops and outdoor hospitality re-opened.

Called #colouryoursenses, the campaign invites residents to

rediscover the sights, sounds, smells, feelings and tastes of Kingston, celebrating the town's uniqueness.

Kirsten Henly, Chief Executive of Kingston First explained more about what the campaign aims to achieve.

She said: "Our new 'Colour Your Senses' campaign brings vibrant colour to Kingston, welcoming our local residents and visitors back into the town centre and reminding them of the unique experience of Kingston that we have all missed so much during the long lockdown.

"After many months of closure, our businesses are keen to welcome customers back safely and we can't wait to see the town full of life once more.

"We've also invested in additional deep-cleaning and outdoor seating so people can enjoy meeting up in a safe environment."

In a recent update on the campaign Henly said that footfall in the centre had been stronger than when shops re-opened in December and noted that residents were enjoying the use of outdoor spaces in restaurants.
