Shops along Surbiton's high street (Victoria Road) are being asked to take part in an upcoming Christmas event.

The event, which is being organised by the Surbiton Town Centre Partnership and The Community Brain, will take place in Surbiton Station's forecourt on Thursday, 3 December.

Surbiton Town Centre Partnership said that the event will include a market, the switching on of Christmas lights, Christmas Choirs, and a Santa's Grotto.

It is hoping local businesses can help with:

• Participating in the kids' trail to help find Santa's reindeer
• Decorating shop windows to enter the best dressed shop window competition and win publicity and prizes
• Putting on some special events and offers
• Sponsoring the event or getting involved with organising it.

Speaking about the event, the Surbiton Town Centre Partnership said: "CALLING CENTRAL SURBITON SHOP FRONT BUSINESSES!!

"Now that the Celebrate Surbiton events are finished, the Surbiton Town Centre Partnership and The Community Brain are looking towards Christmas!

"The Christmas event on the station forecourt on Thursday December 3rd has already been announced and thanks to the Community Brain, it looks like it's going to be a Christmas Extravaganza not to be missed!

"As well as a market, expect lights switching on, Christmas choirs and of course Santa!

"Over the next while we'll be looking for local central businesses to get more involved - specifically dress up your windows for Christmas and take part in the children's hunt for Santa's reindeer.

"We'll supply the reindeer's, you just need to feature them in your Christmassy window! There will be a prize for the best dressed window and all those on the Christmas Trail will be part of the map.

"Of course this is also a great opportunity for you to devise your own attraction for your shop/pub/cafe/restaurant etc and maximise the Christmas spirit on the evening of the 3rd through to Christmas Eve.

"The kids trail will be on all through this time period. We're hoping to physically visit as many businesses as possible to get you on board but you can help by volunteering."
