The Sunflower Streets Residents' Association (SSRA) is organising the first Fairfield Litter Picking event of 2025 this Saturday, 11 January from 2pm to 3pm.

In 2024, SSRA collected 44 bags of rubbish, including 15 bags of recycling, alongside 144 volunteers.

Kingston Town Ward Councillor John Sweeney said: "Litter-picking events like those organized by the Sunflower Street Residence Association have a tremendous impact on our environment and our community."

Sweeney, who attends the events occasionally, added: "They not only help keep Fairfield clean but also foster a sense of pride and connection locally. It's a small act with a big ripple effect"

The town ward councillor encourages anyone who has thought about joining to give the Fairfield Litter Picking events a go.

Volunteers, from 5 to 85 year olds, attended the 6 community group events organised by SSRA and Tricorn Residents Association in 2024.

Residents from Bonner Hill Road, Piper Road and Rowlls Road in Norbiton gather in Fairfield to clean the local area regularly.

SSRA Alliance, a larger non-membership group, also works with other surrounding areas, from Linden Crescent, Portman and Somerset Roads, Hampden and Cambridge Grove.

The community group was established in 2019 to advocate for the environment and to maintain local areas clean alongside volunteers.
