Kingston's renowned Greek restaurant, The Souvlaki, has been crowned the winner of the 2023 Just Eat Greater London Takeaway of the Year award.

Co-owners Valentinos Varelas and Sandy Tsadgi started their journey nine years ago when they moved to the UK from Greece and have not looked back since.

From humble beginnings in 2015 operating as a food stall at Kingston's Ancient Market Place, The Souvlaki opened its first store in 2018, offering residents an authentic Greek experience with traditional Souvlaki and Gyros.

Serving souvlaki wraps and boxes, gyros, and classic Greek sides and desserts, the award-winning takeaway also offers an eat in experience where guests enter to a spacious, warm environment and are treated to staple wraps/box options with traditional natural products including Cretan Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Feta Cheese, Olives, Original Cypriot Halloumi, Greek Pita Bread and iconic homemade sauces

Valentinos and Sandy attended the Just Eat Restaurant Awards in February which returned for its seventh year. The ceremony was hosted by Joel Dommett and several celebrities were in attendance to see The Souvlaki receive their prestigious award.

Reflecting on the evening, the duo said: "We would like to say a big thank you to all our customers in Kingston and surrounding areas, for the support all these years and to all the customers who come from far away to visit us. Of course to our Kingston University Student Community!

"It is a big reward and great honour for the hard work that we put to keep the food quality of high standards all these years and we will continue to do it with the same consistency. Nothing could have been done without you! Since last year we have set up four new franchise branches across the nation and we aim to reach number 10 by the end of 2023. Our base is our Original Kingston Restaurant, and always will be!"

Ed Davey, MP for Kingston and Surbiton, said: "Congratulations to The Souvlaki on this award! It's brilliant to see their excellent food and contribution to the local community here in Kingston being recognised.

"I feel incredibly fortunate to live in an area with great takeaways - these small, independent businesses are so important in providing local jobs, bringing our community together - and producing good food! Well done to The Souvlaki!"

The Souvlaki can be found at Wheatfield Way, Kingston upon Thames KT1 2PD or you can order via Deliveroo, Just Eats or Uber Eats.
