Kingston upon Thames' covid-19 infection rate is now the highest in London and the neighbouring borough of Richmond is not far behind.

Kingston had an infection rate of 334 per 100,000 people as of October 6 2021 with the high transmission rate being put down to children spreading coronavirus at school.

But this is just 10 points up on last week's infection rate, showing that transmission may be starting to slow.

In second place to Kingston is the West London borough of Hounslow, with an infection rate of 330 per 100,000.

Kingston's neighbour Richmond had an infection rate of 320 over the same period, putting it third.

Last month, Richmond had the highest Covid infection rate in London but the council claimed there was "no specific reason" why numbers had increased.

Ealing, Sutton and Enfield have also been identified as having the top infection rates in London.

However, infection rates are far lower than other parts of the UK, such as Kettering, which had a rate of 792.5 per 100,000 as of October 11.

And in more central and crowded parts of London such as Westminster and the City of London, coronavirus infection rates are the lowest in capital.

Coronavirus 'hotspots' and 'notspots' are revealed on a map (pictured above) charting the number of positive Covid-19 test results in each borough across the country using government data.

The number of new cases is then used to calculate the infection rate per 100,000 people.

London recorded 3,050 coronavirus cases on October 11, taking the total to 1,109,227 since the pandemic started.

The number of daily cases has stayed consistent since last month and four covid deaths were recorded on October 11.

Nearly six million people in London have been given a first dose of a Covid vaccine with almost 5.4 million having had both jabs.
