A woman who stabbed her male partner causing him serious injuries has been sentenced at Kingston Crown Court.

Simone Smith, 48, attacked the victim with a kitchen knife at their home last year on 27 December.

She then tried to intimidate her partner into saying the attack was an accident, in calls made from her prison cell.

The calls provided substantial evidence of her guilt and Smith later pleaded guilty to Section 20 GBH . She was also charged with breach of a suspended sentence.

Last week, on Thursday 8 July, Smith was sent to prison for 3 years and 10 months by a judge at Kingston upon Thames Crown Court

PC Driver said: "Simone Smith once again showed extreme levels of violence, where a knife was used to cause serious injury to her partner.

"This left the victim with severe physical injuries and unable to work for some time.

"Whilst in prison Smith made numerous calls to the victim in order to convince him to say the incident was just an accident so the case could get thrown out of court.

"On reviewing the calls made by Smith, they provided substantial evidence which led to Smith pleading guilty to GBH.

"Smith has shown complete disregard to the investigation and also the victim.

"I would like to say thanks to the witnesses and members of the public that came forward to provide evidence in the investigation."

Warning: the below contains graphic details of the attack by Smith which some readers may find disturbing

"In the late afternoon of 27th December 2020, the London Ambulance service (LAS) put in a call for assistance. Racing to help our colleagues, we arrived on scene to the emptiness of the venues parking area. There was no trace of life and officers began scouring for a victim and/or suspect.

"Noticing a small large trail of blood spattering the outside door to some flats, the officers ventured inside. There was a trail of scarlet droplets leading towards a door in the upper levels.

"There was an acrid twang of TCP in the air alongside the blooded directions.

"Entering the marked door, two occupants were located. Asking if either needed assistance, officers were quick to realise that both people were intoxicated.

"The blood was explained away as a slip on a newly fitted lock. But in checking the male over, there was a clear, open wound which bore the same traits as that of a stab injury.

"Investigating the scene, a blooded kitchen knife was located hidden between the cushion and arm of the chair, and the female was arrested.

"Providing a full no comment interview, she was charged with GBH of the male and remanded to prison."

"On the 8th July 2021 Simone Smith, 28/09/1972, was sentenced at Kingston Crown Court to the following:

- 28 months for Section 20 GBH

- 18 months for breach of suspended sentence

- Total: 3 years and 10 months."

Kingston police added: "If you've been a victim of Domestic Violence or Abuse, please do call us on 101 or 999 in emergencies and get the support you need."
