Kingston to get surge vaccinations and testing as covid cases soar
The London borough of Kingston upon Thames will soon be getting surge vaccinations and testing due to soaring cases of coronavirus and concern over the B1617.2 variant - commonly known as the Indian variant - MPs have announced.
Kingston MPs Ed Davey and Sarah Olney broke the news on social media yesterday (June 2) after it was reported that cases of the virus in Kingston were rising the fastest in London.
In a Twitter post dated Wednesday June 2, Kingston and Surbiton MP Davey announced: "Kingston: important Covid news.
"Kingston's Covid rates are rising fast and are now London's highest, driven by the Delta strain.
"Urgent action will include surge testing and surge vaccination.
"Details will soon be announced on https://kingston.gov.uk"
Ms Olney, MP for Richmond Park who counts part of North Kingston in her constituency, added: "Important Covid-19 update.
"Case rates in the Kingston are now the highest in London. The Council will be carrying out surge vaccinations & testing.
"If offered, please take the vaccine and help combat the spread of this virus."

In Hounslow, one of the UK's B1617.2 variant 'hotspots' and where surge testing is still being carried out, the rate was 54.5 over the same time period.
Data this weekend also showed that cases of the B1617.2 variant in Kingston were still low at just five cases compared to 80 in Hounslow.
