A KINGSTON schoolboy has been arrested and is being investigated by police after pupils were being targeted by muggers on roads near the school gates.

The boy was arrested last week on Friday 19 November in relation to nine incidents of robbery and attempted robbery, police confirmed to Nub News today.

The incidents happened primarily in Kingston and included the Cross Road, Elm Road, and Surbiton Hill Road areas, they said.

The boy has since been released under investigation.

The news comes a week after parents at Hollyfield School were warned about muggers targeting pupils, including one child who was threatened with a weapon.

Police and staff were brought in to patrol the area for the week until Friday 19, and parents asked to tell their children to go straight home after the school day.

On social media there were also reports of muggings and attempted muggings at Kingston Academy.

A police spokesperson told Nub News today: "One school-boy has been arrested in regards to several incidents of Robbery in Kingston.

"This is in regards to 9 incidents of robbery and attempted robbery reported to police from the 7th to 18th of November.

"These primarily occurred around Kingston and included the Cross Road, Elm Road, and Surbiton Hill Road areas.

"The boy was arrested on the 19th November 2021 by officers from our Violence Suppression Unit.

"He has since been released under investigation."
