Kingston Post Office will be re-opening sometime at the end of next week, according to the Council's Portfolio Holder for Business and Leisure.

Berrylands Councillor John Sweeney indicated in a Twitter post earlier this week that the branch will be welcoming customers on a date around the Thursday 26 May.

In a Twitter post dated Monday 16 May, Councillor Sweeney said: "Met Siva from the @RBKingston town centre @PostOffice.

"Pleased to hear it will re-open in about 10 days.

"Finding a new premises in a pandemic was tricky.

"Thank you @yoganMBE @inkingstonuk @bentallcentre and @EdwardJDavey for your help. #KINGSTON #teamwork"

Asked where the new branch would be located, Councillor Sweeney confirmed it would be in the Bentalls Centre but could not say where.

Nub News took a look around and found signs advertising the arrival of a new Post Office outside a unit on the Centre's Lower Ground Floor, between McDonald's and WH Smith.

Last month, plans for the town centre Post Office branch to move to new premises in the shopping centre on 23 April fell through , leaving many residents in Kingston without a local service for more than a month after the closure of the Eden Street site on April 11.

At the time a Councillor suggested that a temporary 'pop-up' Post Office was being considered but it now seems this will no longer be needed, provided the branch does open next week.
