Kingston Police have warned of a new scam affecting people in the borough.

It involves criminals phoning up people pretending to be the police.

They then ask the person for money.

Here is a full statement from Kingston Council: "Fraudsters are calling pretending to be police officers to scam people out of money.

"If you receive a call that raises your suspicions hang up & phone 101 on a different phone or, allow at least 5 minutes for the line to clear.

"Remember to warn elderly friends/relatives."

Kingston Police added: "We will NEVER call you and ask you to move money to another account.

"If you do become the victim of fraud by impersonation like this contact @actionfrauduk at https://actionfraud.police.uk.

"Always call 999 in an emergency."
