Eight fire engines were called to a house fire on Southwood Avenue in Kingston at 6:20 am yesterday, Sunday 5 January.

The loft space and the first floor of a two-floor detached house were alight when the London Fire Brigade (LFB) arrived at the scene.

60 firefighters worked on controlling the fire for more than an hour before the fire was contained by 7.57am.

An LFB spokesperson said: " Half of the first floor was damaged by the fire.

"Three people left the property before the Brigade arrived. There are currently no reports of any injuries.

"The fire is believed to have been accidental and was caused by an electrical fault."

The Brigade received the first of seven calls about the fire at 6.20am.

Control officers mobilised crews from New Malden, Surbiton and Kingston to attend to the fire.

Three people were inside the house and escaped before the firefighters arrived.

The cause of the fire is not confirmed but the fire is believed to have been accidental due to an electrical fault.

The LFB is investigating the cause.
