Kingston's longest-running choir is set to return to public performance for the first time in months next week.

The Kingston Orpheus choir will be performing an indoor concert on Saturday 24th July at St John's Church , Grove Lane, Kingston after more than a year of COVID restrictions thwarted performances.

The choir has been able to rehearse online and recently outdoors to prepare for a concert including well known and much loved music by Vivaldi and Fauré.

Conducted by David Condry, the Orpheus will be joined by Blackheath and Bramley Choral Society to add volume and extra dynamics to the singing.

The choirs will be accompanied on the organ by Serb Gillot and a string quartet.

The concert starts at 7.30pm and will include complimentary interval drinks. Donations are welcome.

Ticket prices and how to book

Tickets cost £16 for adults, with £14 concessions.

Students can see the show for £6 and there is free entry for under-18s.

The choir encourages the wearing of masks in the audience.

Please note that the box office will reserve tickets, and request that they are paid for in cash or with a cheque at the concert.

About Kingston Orpheus

Kingston Orpheus is a mixed voice choir of around 50 singers.

The choir was founded in 1944 by local resident George Anderson .

The Surrey Comet reported that Mr Anderson founded the choir because he "found there was very little serious music to be found in London, let alone in Kingston."

Dubbed 'Mr Orpheus' by the paper , Mr Anderson was devoted to his choir and retired from the role after 37 years of service.

Princess Alexandra attended the 75-year-old's farewell concert, along with the Mayor of Kingston and JW Wrigglesworth.

Anderson was succeeded by Susan Higgins until 2007 and the group's current Musical Director is David Condry.
