In an exclusive interview with Kingston Nub last week, Kingston and Surbiton MP, Ed Davey, said that the recent inquiry, called for by the Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch, regarding grooming gangs is "hypocritical".

He says this because the original inquiry led by Professor Alexis Jay, who chaired the inquiry for seven years, was submitted to then Tory PM Theresa May, but "nothing was done about it".

"Hypocritical is an understatement," he said.

The leader of the Liberal Democrats, who has met with and worked with Professor Jay, says he's pushing the government to take on board Professor Jay's recommendations and to resource them.

Members of a grooming gang convicted of abusing girls in Huddersfield (West Yorkshire Police).

He said: "I propose for child protection authorities to share its data across other relevant authorities, including councils and the police etc..

"I also believe that the Government should make it a criminal offence if you don't report it [incidents of child grooming].

"We need to make sure that child protection authorities, mainly Ofsted, are protecting our children."

Ed Davey MP hopes for the Government to bring back the first inquiry chaired by Professor Jay.

He said: "I take this matter extremely seriously, background and religion are irrelevant, they [culprits of grooming] must be imprisoned.

"Let's make sure we're looking after our children."
