The MP for Kingston and Surbiton, Ed Davey, says that there needs to be a "diplomatic" solution to the US war with Iran.

Speaking about whether the war in Iran should end now, Ed Davey MP said: "Well, I think it should be diplomatic talks. Have a ceasefire, stop the fighting, have the talks and get a diplomatic solution. But this situation now is just untenable."

The Lib Dem Leader says that he does not know whether there should be a ceasefire now, but says "you should try".

He added: "Why aren't they trying? Why are so few people doing what's in the interest of the British people, the Iranian people, the people of the Middle East, and working hard for a diplomatic solution. I'm actually pretty sure that world leaders are not doing enough about an end to this conflict.

"Now, no one's saying that'll be easy, but why aren't they doing more on that?"

 In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the MP added: "Why are so few world leaders trying to bring an end to this conflict through a diplomatic solution?

"That would be in the interest of the British people, the Iranian people and all those around the world suffering the consequences of Trump's illegal war."

Ed Davey MP has previously slammed the Prime Minister's granting the US permission to use UK bases while at war with Iran.
