Have your say: 145 new homes could be built on Kingston's Thames Side Wharf

Local residents, businesses and community groups are being invited to view and provide their feedback on emerging proposals for Thames Side Wharf on Kingston's riverside through a public consultation.

The proposals are being brought forward by Fenwick, the site's owner, working with development manager Define Land.

The two companies hope to transform a vacant plot between Vicarage Road and Water Lane, which has stood empty for years and currently forms a gap in the riverfront between the town centre and the Thames, into an active stretch of publicly accessible waterfront.

The scheme would deliver around 145 new homes, a mix of one, two and three-bedroom properties, across two buildings in a highly accessible location close to Kingston Station, shops and services.

The proposed riverside building would be 12 storeys, with the second building stepping down from 12 to 10 storeys, with set-backs at upper levels intended to create a lighter appearance and respond to the surrounding townscape.

The proposals also seek to enhance the adjoining riverside, with the aim of creating a more welcoming publicly accessible space including:

A new riverside restaurant and other active spaces for the community at ground floor
Safer and more attractive walking and cycling routes between the town centre and the riverside
A more welcoming riverside space with new green spaces, public seating, informal play areas and improved pedestrian routes to the river
A fully electric, sustainable development, alongside new planting, sustainable drainage and bio-solar roofs

Shaun Lyons, Director at Define Land, said: "Thames Side Wharf is one of the most prominent sites on Kingston's riverside, yet it has sat vacant and cut off from the town centre for far too long.

"Our proposals are about opening it back up to the town and river, creating a public space that everyone can enjoy, with new places to eat, meet and spend time, and much-needed new homes in the heart of the town centre.

"We'd encourage local people to come along to the exhibition, see the plans for themselves and share their views."

The public exhibition is an opportunity to learn more about the proposals, meet the project team and share feedback before a planning application is submitted.

Members of the team will be on hand to answer questions, and feedback forms will be available at the exhibition and online.

The exhibition will be held at Anstee House, Wood Street, Kingston on:

Tuesday ,15 September, 4pm – 7pm
Saturday, 19 September, 10am – 1pm

Residents can also view the proposals and provide feedback online at www.thamessidewharf.co.uk throughout the consultation period.

Following the consultation, the team intends to submit a planning application to Kingston Council in autumn 2026.
