GENEROUS Kingston borough residents looking to support a local cause this Christmas will see their donation DOUBLE at no extra cost if they make it before 12pm today.

The Kingston Charitable Foundation (KCF), also known as Love Kingston, is urging community-spirited individuals and businesses to help it raise £5,000 target as part of The Big Give.

a national week-long campaign to raise millions for good causes which sees donations from the public 'matched' with generous grants from supporting businesses.

KCF say they have been "overwhelmed" by the response from the last six days of the campaign.

They have raised a total £4,660 - just over £300 away from their goal.

The charity have awarded fourteen grants this year to some of Kingston's best known and well-loved charities this year including Voices of Hope, Crossway Pregnancy Crisis Centre, Save the World Club, Chessington Community Food Project and Peterson's Fund for Children.

Most of the money raised from todays' challenge (£4,500) will go on nine more grants of £500 each to Kingston charities.

The extra £500 will be spent on core organisational running costs of the foundation.

This year KCF are being supported by Rowan Bentall Charitable Trust, and Paul and Chantal Cox.

On their fundraising page, the group state: "Kingston upon Thames has pockets of deprivation, with growing numbers of people that need our support; including working poor, unemployed and people who need help with their health and wellbeing.

"Demand on local voluntary services, charitable organisations and groups has increased and these organisations require additional support by way of our funding to help local people in need.

"We ensure that our grants are awarded where the need is most prevalent, we work with local, small charitable organisations and groups, delivering projects at a grassroots level to help residents of Kingston upon Thames."
