A darts-themed bar chain could open a new venue in the site of a former cocktail bar in Kingston.
Flight Bars Ltd is hoping to open a new Flight Club venue in the sight of the former Incognito bar, located in the Griffin Centre, which closed in August last year.
The site is being advertised for sale on Snellers estate agents, and its site description says: "comprises the former Griffin Inn Assembly Rooms which have been converted into a high end bar premises arranged over ground and first floors with a first floor dining room.
"The kitchens are situated at first floor level benefitting from a food elevator. There is also an outside courtyard seating area overlooking the Hogsmill River. Other traders within the Griffin Centre and close by include Mimosa coffee shop, Poor Boys restaurant and The Rose Theatre."
Flight Club, which has various venues across the country, specialises is high-tech social darts games as well as offering food and drinks.
Planning for the Kingston opening, Flight Bars Ltd is seeking permission from Kingston Council to host live and/or recorded music, supply alcohol, and for the provision of late-night refreshments.
Should its application be approved, Flight Bars Ltd hopes to start operating this licence on 1 April 2026.
As per live music, the company hopes to play indoor amplified music, including acoustic or electric instruments "played by the musicians or singer on the spot" from 8am – 11pm Monday to Saturdays, until 10pm on Sundays, and at later times on Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve, and New Year's Day.
However, Flight Bars Ltd says "Live music would be an infrequent/semi-regular event".
The company also hopes to play amplified recorded music "that has been pre-recorded (not performed live) and played through electronic amplification so it can be heard clearly at a larger volume".
It says that it would play recorded music from 8am – 11pm Monday to Thursday, until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, until 10pm on Sundays, and until even later times on Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve, and New Year's Day.
Flight Bars Ltd is also seeking permission for the "Sale of alcohol for consumption on the premises during additional trading hours (23:00 - 00:00) on Friday and Saturday evenings" as well as on Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve, and New Year's Day.
Moreover, it would like to supply alcohol from 11am –11pm Monday to Thursday, until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, until 10pm on Sundays, and until even later times on Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve, and New Year's Day.
Should Flight Bars Ltd receive approval from the council for the new venue, it suggests it will open "for the sale of non-alcoholic drinks, such as soft drinks and coffee, to the public from 8:00 AM".
It added: "Alcoholic drinks will only be served from 11:00 AM onwards".
To keep in line with the council's four licencing objectives, the company says "The premises will operate responsibly to promote the licensing objectives. Crime and disorder will be minimised through CCTV, staff training, Challenge 25, and incident logging".
It added: "Public safety will be ensured via risk assessments, emergency exits, trained staff, and first aid provision.
"Public nuisance will be controlled through noise management, supervision of outside areas, and an orderly dispersal policy.
"Children will be protected by enforcing Challenge 25, preventing alcohol sales to minors, and ensuring supervision when on the premises."
Local residents have until 18 February to submit representations on this application and can do so here.
