Cancer Research could close Surbiton store

Cancer Research is expected to close around 90 stores by the end of May, with a further 100 to be shut by April 2027, including the one in Surbiton.
The charity claimed that mounting financial pressures from a lacklustre high street performance, declining footfall and rising costs had all contributed towards the site closures.
As a result, the decision was made to undergo a long-term restructuring plan, which would see the charity pivot towards research objectives.
Shuttered sites had been selected based on financial performance, lease agreements and their geographical position across the UK.
Cancer Research said just 320 "high-performing" locations will remain, but intends to continue expanding its network of out-of-town superstores.
In the next two years, around 12 of these new stores are set to open, with 46 currently in operation around the country.
When the plan was first announced, the charity said that retail had "played a critical role in our mission – delivering over £225m in contribution over the last 10 years."
It added: "This news will be difficult. Our decisions have been taken after serious consideration. We're committed to supporting everyone affected by these changes, and will provide clear information and support throughout the process."
The organisation also noted that £4 million more had been spent on ongoing and new research in 2025 t
