Canbury Gardens has been accredited the Green Flag Awards as it is internationally recognised as one of the country's best parks.

The Green Flag Award, the international quality mark for parks and green spaces, recognised the council's commitment to Kingston's green spaces. It noted the council's role in safeguarding and enhancing the green areas for current and future generations.

Paul Todd MBE, Keep Britain Tidy's Green Flag Award Scheme Manage, said: "Canbury Gardens is a vital green space for the community in Kingston, bring people together and providing opportunities to lead healthy lifestyles.

"The staff and volunteers do so much to ensure that it maintains the high standards of the Green Flag Awards and everyone involved should feel extremely proud of their achievement."

The award highlighted the green space's public resources, including a range of play equipment and outdoor gym machines, as well as offering an area for various Friends Groups to discuss community issues at regular meetings.

Cllr Niel Hadjimichael: "Canbury Gardens is a special place which attracts thousands of visitors each year […] from each corner of the Borough, London and beyond.

"We're incredibly proud of the borough's green spaces which provide so many with somewhere to relax, unwind and socialise within easy reach of the town centre."

The Green Flag Award scheme is managed by the environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy. It acknowledges and accredits well-managed parks and green spaces, creating the benchmark for managing green spaces across the UK and around the world.
