ArtHouse Galleries in the Bentalls Centre has announced it is closing down after seven months of business, despite initial plans for the pop-up to only run until March.

The gallery will be closing on Saturday 1 June, but will continue to showcase work from 12 different Surrey and London based painters, glass makers and wood turners until then.

As part of the closure, founder of ArtHouse Galleries Kate Winskill says a sale with discounts from 10% to 75% off will run until their last day, with prices starting from £5.

The store was intended as an accessible way for local artists to sell their work to the public, with the direct-to-consumer model keeping prices low with no commission on sales.

ArtHouse's offerings evolved over its seven-month tenure: as once one piece was sold, another would take its place.

When the gallery opened in November last year, Ms Winskill told Nub News: "We want to show people that buying original art from the artists is totally affordable and easy to do."

Artists manned the gallery themselves, with different members of the team working on different days.

The gallery can be found in the Bentall Centre at its Wood Street entrance, and is open from tomorrow, Wednesday 29 May. It will then open daily from 11am to 5pm, until Saturday 1 June.

ArtHouse Gallery will continue to operate in a new pop-up in Jubilee Square, Woking.
