Armed Forces Day: Veterans at Surbiton care home recognised for their service
By Tilly O'Brien 3rd Jul 2026
Veterans marked Armed Forces Day at Royal Star & Garter's Home in Surbiton last weekend.
Residents from the Home held a series of events during the week which culminated in Armed Forces Day on Saturday, 27 June.
Residents who moved to the Surbiton Home within the past 12 months received Armed Forces pins, especially arranged by staff.
The Surbiton Royal British Legion Youth Marching Band also performed live, and on the day itself RAF veteran Geoff raised the Armed Forces Day flag outside the Home.

Yasmin Rogers, Deputy Home Manager at the Home, said: "Armed Forces Day is an important opportunity to recognise the dedication, courage and sacrifice of those who have served our country.
"As we provide care for veterans and their partners, this day allows us to celebrate their achievements and honour their service. Maintaining the military connection for residents who wish to do so is an important part of the person-centre care provided at the Home."
Armed Forces Day is a chance for the public to show its support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community: from currently serving personnel to Service families, veterans and cadets.
It marks the culmination of a week of celebrations, when the public show their appreciation for the Armed Forces community.
According to the charity, all Royal Star & Garter Homes recognise and maintain military connections for the many veteran residents who wish to do so.
